Copywriting that earns its place in your business.

Direct response copywriting for founders, experts and businesses who need writing that does a job — not writing that fills a page.

Copywriting Services by Paul Wakefield, experienced UK commercial writer

What you're actually buying.

Most copy fails for the same reason: it describes the business instead of speaking to the customer. It lists features nobody asked about, hedges every claim, and ends with a call to action so vague that nobody acts on it.

I write the other kind. Copy built on a clear idea of who is reading, what they already believe, what they're afraid of, and what would genuinely move them to act. Thirty years in business and twenty years writing means I look at a brief commercially first and creatively second.

That applies whether it's a sales page, an email sequence, a landing page, an advert or the three paragraphs at the top of your homepage that decide whether anyone reads the rest.

Who this is for

Founders

You know your product better than anyone but can't get it onto the page without sounding like everyone else.

Marketing teams

You need a senior writer who can take a brief, ask the right questions and come back with something usable.

Consultants and experts

Your expertise is the product. The copy has to carry your authority without shouting.

Ecommerce and SaaS

Pages, emails and campaigns that need to convert, not just read nicely.

Why experienced copy costs more

You can buy 500 words for £40. What you're buying is 500 words. What you're not buying is the judgement that decides which 500 words, in which order, aimed at whom.

The writing itself is the quick part. The research, the positioning and the decision about what to leave out are the parts that make it work.

How I work

You send the brief, the idea or the problem. We have a conversation — usually half an hour — where I ask the questions that make the difference. I research, draft and send you the work with a short note explaining the choices I made. You come back with feedback and we finish it.

No account managers, no discovery funnels, no handing your project to a junior. You deal with me throughout.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between copywriting and content writing?+

Copywriting is written to persuade — a sales page, an email, an advert. Content writing is written to inform and build trust — articles, guides, newsletters. Most businesses need both, and I write both.

How much does a freelance copywriter cost in the UK?+

Experienced UK freelance copywriters typically charge £300–£1,500 for a single piece, or £1,500–£4,000 a month on retainer. My work starts at £300 for an email and £1,250 for a key website page.

How quickly can you start?+

Usually within a week or two, depending on what's in the diary. Urgent work can often be accommodated — ask.

Do you use AI?+

AI is a useful tool for research and structure. It's a poor substitute for judgement, originality and knowing your market. Every piece is researched, written and shaped by me.
